About Me

About Me     My Profile     Why Racing?

My passion for cars started as a teenager, watching my brother rebuild his MkII Escort, handing him tools! I couldn’t wait to pass my test and get my 1st car, and yes it was a Ford!! My 1st car wasn’t a little 1000cc Fiesta, it needed more power, I got my hands on a Escort 1.6i. The insurance was crippling but was worth it for the street cred at the time!!

While watching F1 and Touring cars on TV I became totally smitten by it all. The sport is still a male dominated sport and at the time I had no idea women were involved or could get involved in motor sport.

I entered Formula Woman in the 2006 competition after seeing it on TV and thinking “I could do that”. I had an assessment day at Teesside Autodrome in Middlesbrough, but with no track experience I decided to get some practice before I went for my assessment.

I was really apprehensive at the practice as I didn’t know if I’d be any good. The practice session went extremely well. The instructor was impressed and couldn’t believe I had never driven on track before. He commented on my natural driving ability and said that if I drove same on the day of the assessment I should progress through to the next rounds of the competition.

This gave me tremendous confidence, the actual assessment day achievements were phenomenal. Out of the 4000 applications I was one of the 100 shortlisted. This was an absolute dream come true. My joy was to be short lived, I received the dates for the championship and I realised that 1 date coincided with my wedding in August. I could have attended the eliminations but I couldn’t but the end goal would be inaccessible.

I decided to delay my entry to this year and try again. I feel a lot more prepared this time and have worked hard on my fitness and gaining track experience. I purchased a Peugeot 205 MI16 track car to improve my experience and hopefully gain an edge over the competition. I’ve entered numerous karting competitions and always finish in the top 4, even winning one race against a field of 16 men!!

I’ve been a track day regular at Croft circuit where I’ve had instruction from Philip House (Clio Cup) and Jonny Cocker (GT Championship). Both commented on my natural driving ability and confidence behind the wheel. Further training days are already scheduled to further improve my chances of getting into the final 16 of Formula Woman 2007.
